Rio Celeste Waterfall + Rainforest Hanging Bridges + Sloth Garden
The Rainforest Combo combines three of Guanacaste’s most breathtaking attractions: the Rio Celeste Waterfall, the Sloth Garden, and the Rainforest Hanging Bridges. Your day starts with a pickup from your Guanacaste resort or villa. We will travel through scenic countryside and Guanacaste’s mountain range, and our guide will share his knowledge about the local wildlife, the volcanic range, gastronomy, and local culture.
The Rainforest Combo first drive takes you to the Tenorio Volcano National Park, where the Rio Celeste Waterfall is located. Famous for its unreal turquoise-blue color, caused by a rare natural chemical reaction between volcanic minerals. A moderate hike leads you through the rainforest before arriving at one of Costa Rica’s most stunning natural wonders, the Rio Celeste Waterfall.
From this point, you can decide whether to continue the hike through the park or return to complete the rest of the activities. The rest of the hike takes you to the point known as Los Teñideros. Two crystal-clear streams meet and transform into the brilliant turquoise color that gives Rio Celeste its name. The hike to the waterfall takes 90 minutes total, and the whole hike takes approximately 3.00 hours.
Next, the Rainforest Combo will drive you to Las Ranitas Sloth Garden, a small family-run sloth sanctuary in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, dedicated to conservation and education. Discover sleepy sloths hanging from the treetops, colorful frogs, butterflies, and other native species. This peaceful stop offers a wonderful opportunity to observe wildlife up close and learn about the importance of rainforest preservation.
The garden is also home to a variety of toucans, monkeys, red-eyed and blue jean frogs, butterflies, iguanas, tapirs, and tropical birds. You will also enjoy a cultural show where you will learn about the elaboration of coffee, chocolate, and sugarcane.
Once you finish at the Sloth Garden, prepare to enjoy a delicious traditional Costa Rican lunch at a local restaurant. Enjoy fresh, authentic dishes prepared with local ingredients. At the same place, you can enjoy a small butterfly garden with several species.
After lunch, the Rainforest Combo will drive you to the Rainforest Hanging Bridges Park. Stroll along forest trails and elevated suspension bridges that bring you eye-level with the treetops, providing spectacular views of the canopy and Arenal Volcano in the distance. You will hike over three hanging bridges with longitudes from 105 to 75 meters and heights ranging from 35 to 27 meters.
Here, you’ll experience the forest from a whole new perspective, walking high above the ground. You’ll have breathtaking panoramic views, and it’s common to spot howler monkeys, toucans, hummingbirds, and even poison dart frogs along the way. Once you finish at the Rainforest Hanging Bridges, prepare for the drive back to your resort or villa.
