Playas del Coco (Coco Beach) is among the country’s most well-known beaches and is the entrance gate to the Papagayo Gulf. It is located just a 25-minute drive from Guanacaste Airport. A very popular area for sport fishing and scuba diving. This is the largest village on the Guanacaste coastline.
Known primarily as the gateway for surfers to reach places like Witches Rock, Potrero Grande, or Ollie’s Point. This busy beach is a prime scuba diving spot, with many sites to discover the local marine life. Very popular among the locals, Playas del Coco has a well-developed infrastructure. This beautiful beach is easily accessible all year round with good roads. There are also plenty of shops, restaurants, bars, banks, ATMs, discos, pharmacies, casinos, hotels, resorts, and markets.
The nightlife at Coco Beach is also quite good, so if you happen to visit the area during Christmas or Easter week expect to find a lot of people here partying ‘beach style.’ The beach of Playas del Coco itself is grayish-brown and the tide here often remains relatively low. Surrounded by steep cliffs and hills, this horseshoe-shaped bay area is ideal for fun. However, if you are looking for a quiet spot to relax, try staying away from the center of town, where most of the fun happens.
From Playas del Coco you can also head out to Las Pelonas Islands, Catalinas, and Bat Islands. All excellent sites to spot turtles, sharks, and octopuses in the natural environment. The main attraction of this beach is its excellent variety of tourist facilities and great weather. Besides fishing excursions, sailing and catamaran tours here are also necessary. Many tourists also use Playas del Coco as a base camp because of its affordable accommodations. Also because of the distance to enjoy local tours that you can perform from here and national parks when touring the Guanacaste region.
You can also find various accommodations such as hotels, condominiums near the beach, fantastic ocean views, and beachfront homes. You will also find all kinds of facilities like medical services, banks, supermarkets, restaurants, etc. Certainly, Playas del Coco enjoys a great location to stay and travel from during your vacations in the country.
