Guanacaste Coffee Tour

Our Guanacaste Coffee Tour takes you to discover the process of the coffee beans where you will be able to taste different kinds of coffee. As well you will observe all the grounding, drying, washing, steps, and more before it is ready for the table. You will hike through the plantation and will be able to pick your own beans. Later we will visit the colonial cities of Santa Cruz & Nicoya, where you will visit the church founded in 1644. These are some of the most representative, colonial, and folkloric cities in Costa Rica.

  • Guanacaste Coffee Tour

    We start driving by the morning with directions to Hojancha, where the coffee plantations are located. To start with the tour the local guide will show up in a typical aborigines house some of the legacies of our Pre-Columbian native people. 

    Guanacaste Coffee Tour continues showing you the amazing process of the coffee plants and beans, from the ground, harvest to your mouth. Discover the different steps as the dry process, the roasting and grounding, the water treatment, and natural compost. Of course, enjoy a delicious cup of coffee with some traditional snacks. All this while you enjoy some traditional dance performed by local students.

    Our next stop is the Colonial city of Costa Rica, Nicoya, where you visit the colonial Temple of San Blas constructed in 1644. Nicoya is also the city that in 1824 decides by their own self-annex to Costa Rica after the independence of the Central American countries.

    Guanacaste Coffee Tour takes you later to Santa Cruz, the national folkloric city and the land of the Chorotegas Aborigines. You will visit the amazing church and the central park. This city is also well renowned because of the big typical festivities and rodeos.

  • Guanacaste Outback Adventure

    Our first stop will take you through the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, in a walk for about two hours in the forest where you can observe fumaroles, boiling mud, sulfur lakes and other volcanic activity, then visit the Oropendola waterfall, a beautiful drop clear water where you can swim if you wish. After the volcano experience Guanacaste Outback Adventure head north along the Pan-American Highway heading to Santa Rosa National Park.

    Here you will find the historic monument of the battle succeeded in 1856 against the Filibusters and the Casona still preserves some treasures of the time shown in the museum. Also, you will visit some of the trails in one of the last dry tropical forests in the world, here you can see howler and white-faced monkeys, deer, turkeys, coatimundis among others.

    After a day of nature and history, we will go also to the city of Liberia, the largest in the province, founded in colonial times where you still can see some old houses and its antique chapel. The city also offers many souvenirs for shopping before returning to your place of rest.

  • Guanacaste Turtle Nesting Tour

    Guanacaste Turtle Nesting Tour offers you a great trip to see thousands of turtles nesting at Ostional Wildlife Refuge. This tour will take you through beautiful landscapes and rural towns along the coastal road.

    Ostional is located around 2.5 hours from Papagayo Gulf and 1.5 hours drive from the Tamarindo area. Ostional Wildlife Refuge together with Santa Rosa National Park as well in Guanacaste is the most important nesting site in the world for the Olive Riddle Turtle.

    It is possible to see green or black turtles and on rare occasions Leather-back Turtles. The best months to observe the massive olive riddle turtle arrivals are from August to the end of October. Guanacaste Turtle Nesting Tour also gives you the opportunity to witness nature’s miracle watching some of the biggest  Olive Riddle Turtle arrivals between the months of September and January, especially in the full moons.

    Here you can see thousands of turtles coming out of the ocean for laying their eggs on the beach. It is also possible to observe the hatching, depending on the weather conditions they clast around 50 days before they hatch. This is a great chance to observe and somehow help these little ones to run into the ocean.

    The massive turtles’ nesting used to occur during early hours or late evening hours and only during the lower moon. There is not a specific date for the turtle to come out but we are in constant contact with the range station. Once they start to come out, the arribada can last up to five days. Guanacaste Turtle Nesting Tour is a seasonal tour and we try to arrange the trips at the best times and days possibles. There are turtles coming out along the month but never in the massive number as occurs during the arribadas but still possible to observe some.

  • Barra Honda Caves National Park

    This tour will take you on an amazing underground journey where you will discover some of Costa Rica’s history and geology. Barra Honda Caves was formed when islets from the Miocene Era emerged above the plains of the Tempisque River. The caves and waterways were carved by the action of rain filtering through the limestone over 70 million years or more.

    It is a unique experience showing all of the cave formations full of stalactites and stalagmites.  Its network of limestone stone caverns is decorated with capricious formation rocky, the product of the action of the water on calcium carbonate, the perfect tour for those who like a walk in the forest and adventure.

    Barra Honda Caves enjoys 42 caves including the Nicoa, where Pre-Columbian human remains, artifacts and jewelry were found dated to approximately 300 BC, and Santa Ana, the deepest cave known in the complex which is unusual for its unique and numerous stalactites and columns. This cave plunges some 787 feet (240 m) into the earth.

    Due to its unique underground features, the park is also home to several rare species. These include blind salamanders and endemic fish that have adapted to living in complete darkness.

    In addition, it is a special place to make a long walk by the dry forest and enjoy the beauty of the natural scenes that offer their viewpoints and the flora and fauna abundant in Barra Honda National Park. This spelunking tour is only offered to people in the medium to the good physical condition due to the characteristics of the terrain and the stairs-rappel to get to the cave.

  • Santa Rosa National Park & Junquillal Wildlife Refuge

    Santa Rosa National Park Tour will take you through a review of the colonial history of Costa Rica.  This is the place where Costa Rica defeated in the first of two battles, their land and freedom from the Filibusters invaders in 1856 commanded by the William Walker from New Orleans who pretends to make of Central America southern English speaking colonies under his rule.  The remains of the battle still there as the ancient witness of Costa Rica history.

    In the Santa Rosa National Park is also you can find one of the last remains of pure tropical dry forest in the world. You will admire the many varieties of flora and fauna residents in the area and we can be lucky with the visit of spider and howler monkeys, deer’s, raccoons, coatimundis, birds, and some other animals.
